Pep Guardiola has paid handsome tribute to the record-breaking achievements of his players ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield 2019/20 curtain-raiser with Liverpool.
Though a City player wasn’t included in the short-list for the men’s category of the Best FIFA Football Awards revealed earlier this week, speaking at his pre-match press conference the boss was effusive in his praise and admiration for the squad which created history last term in winning all four English trophies.
“They have credit. I am not saying the guys nominated don’t deserve it. But, for example, in the PFA Premier League team of the season we had five or six nominated,” said the City manager.

“We were incredible (last season) - we won four titles, but we don’t have any there (in the short-list.)
“For this award (the Best FIFA), it’s maybe seven games (in the Champions League). Last 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
“For the other 10 months, maybe, it doesn’t care for these awards. It’s a little unfair, but it is what it is.”
