Pep Guardiola said winning is addictive as he and Fernandinho considered what City must do if we are to be crowned Premier League champions for a third consecutive year.

Both the boss and his tireless midfielder believe our recent success does not make the task of winning any easier and feel the squad’s mentality across the course of the season will prove vital.

For Guardiola, however, there are no doubts. He believes the desire to win is ingrained in his players.

“When we are nine-years-old, you play in school with your friends, you want to win,” he said.

“No one teaches you your mentality, to be competitive. You want to win.

“It’s not about how you motivate. We tell them many things, but you can’t be at a high level if you don’t have desire. They have it for themselves. All Premier League players have that desire to do well.”

Fernandinho added: “We must dig deep in the dressing room and not just rely on Pep to push us.

“We don’t just have a group of great players - we have a great group of human beings and this makes a huge difference.

“I think we all realise that in every training session and match we play, we have to improve, play great football and win our games because we want to win many more titles.”
