The Catalan told journalists: “We realised that they will be difficult to play last season in Carabao Cup.

“We saw how complicated they are. Strong, physical, good set pieces, strong on the counter attack. When you are tired in the last minutes, they put on new players. They defend deep, switch play, control many areas. Good set piece with Neves. That’s why they are doing incredibly well in the Premier League.”

Pep also gave a fitness update on two players who missed the last two games - Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany: ”Sergio, right after game against Liverpool, he was sick. He is a little bit better, today was his first training session. Vincent is recovering also well after the game with Liverpool. He’s getting better. The rest are fit. Will they be fit for Monday? I hope so. Right now I don’t know.”

The boss also said he thinks Gabriel Jesus will fine, even though his family will reportedly return to Brazil.

“The players know they are at an incredible club who try to take care of all us working in this organisations If you need something, the club are there. It’s difficult but it is what it is. He isn’t alone. He has friends. He has special relationship with Brazilian guys, like Danilo. I don’t think it will be a problem.

“Normally when we talk, it’s about the performance of the players. But private life can affect a lot performance. When we are happy, we are better in our job. We judge the players sometimes and we don’t know what is happening in their private life. Their performance day by day, game by game and you have to try and help them.

“All we can do is tell them we are here. We will try to help him. More than that, i don’t know what we can do.”
