Kevin De Bruyne admitted he thought he’d have no part to play in the season finale as he hailed a ‘special’ Premier League title win.
The Belgian, so influential in our 2017/18 campaign, has endured an injury hit campaign and has revealed that he though his season was over after his most recent setback against Tottenham Hotspur.
But he emerged from the bench as City beat Brighton 4-1 to seal back to back championships and can now look forward to the FA Cup final.
“I feel very honoured to be here today,” he said.
“When I had the injury against Tottenham the first thing I said to the physios was, ‘leave me alone, I want to go on holiday, I’m done.’
“I switched after a week and wanted to be ready to be help the team if necessary and even in the final.”
City become the first club in more than a decade to successfully defend the Premier League, something De Bruyne believes adds gloss to this latest achievement.
“It feels special because we’ve gone back to back,” he added.
“To do what we did last year, have a World Cup where we had 16 players involved, start directly with the Community Shield, do the same with the League Cup, be there in the Champions League and win the title, is pretty amazing.”
