Taylor Harwood-Bellis revealed how he was left unsure of how to celebrate after his maiden goal for City was subject to a lengthy VAR check before finally being confirmed.

The 17-year-old capped a fine first start at the Etihad by deflecting a John Stones effort home early in the second half.

But he and his City colleagues had to wait before referee Lee Mason finally awarded the goal after a long VAR check for a possible offside.

“I didn’t quite know how to react to scoring as I’ve not been in a game with VAR before,” Harwood-Bellis revealed.

“But a couple of Port Vale players said I could be onside, so I got my hopes up and, fortunately, it was given.

“I said to John I was trying to move out of the way and then when it wasn’t offside I said that I meant it!

“But, to be honest, I did try and move out of the way... but I’ll take it”!
