Sergio Aguero scored twice to move past the 200-goal mark for City as the Blues lifted the Community Shield for the first time since 2012.

The Argentina striker bagged a goal in each half to cap a brilliant performance from Pep Guardiola’s side, who look in fine shape ahead of next weekend’s Premier League opener.

City were quicker and more inventive than their opponents and were in total control throughout an entertaining afternoon, and the only disappointment was we didn’t score more goals.

The Premier League Champions opened the scoring on 13 minutes, as Phil Foden, who excelled on the spacious Wembley pitch, fed Aguero on the edge of the 18-yard box. He took one touch with his right to steady himself, before firing past Willy Caballero with his left. It was Aguero at his clinical best and after a seven-moth wait, he had his elusive 200th City goal.

His 201st arrived just before the hour mark. Aguero finished off a brilliant breakaway move, started by Stones who won the ball brilliantly on the edge of his own area, to make it 2-0 and put the game beyond Chelsea’s reach.

Though the clash was mainly about fitness and preparation ahead of the new season, Guardiola will have been hugely encouraged by the performance of his players. They were outstanding.
