Captain Steph Houghton went close twice with two trademark free-kicks, but the decisive moment would arrive courtesy of Izzy Christiansen, who rose to head home Krystle Johnston’s pinpoint delivery with just 18 minutes left on the clock.
City survived a late onslaught to upset the odds and Houghton lifted the trophy she had once clinched with the Gunners to make City history.
