To mark International Day of Education on January 24, Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte visited a Premier League Inspires session ran by the Club’s Charity, City in the Community (CITC).

Partnered with the Premier League, City Inspires aims to use the appeal of Manchester City to work with secondary school learners who are at risk of not reaching their potential, and to support them through the education system and into early adulthood.

Laporte visited a session at the Etihad Stadium, where several partner schools were invited along to learn about developing teamwork, leadership, and resilience skills in relation to their education.

The Spanish international central defender also participated in a game of table football before signing shirts, programmes and taking selfies with students.

When answering questions from the students on who influences his life, Laporte said: “Of course, my family [influence me], my father, my mother, my sister, brother, and external people who get involved in my personal life, so two of my friends.”

CITC coaches deliver a high-quality education curriculum that inspires pupils to succeed and excel academically, physically, and socially.

The programme provides an opportunity for pupils to learn essential life skills, with a focus of improving their engagement in education, prosocial behaviours, and mental well-being.

The Charity’s reporting for the year started in September 2022 and since that date CITC have reached more than 300 participants across more than 700 sessions.

City Inspires is not limited to working with just mainstream secondary schools. For more information, email Jonathan.pauley@cityfootball.com.

The team currently delivers in a number of different high schools and Pupil Referral Centres throughout Greater Manchester.

Coaches are able to adapt their approach, the curriculum content and physical activity sessions in order to best meet the requirements of the school/group they are working with.

Laporte’s video forms part of CITC’s month long spotlight on its Inspires and BTEC programmes, helping to celebrate International Day of Education.

City in the Community moves with City Youth to empower healthier lives through football.
