City in the Community (CITC) is on the hunt for its next cohort of BTEC Football Education students.

CITC’s BTEC programme aims to be totally inclusive, offering places to both male and female participants without trials.

Coaches deliver a holistic education of football, supporting those who want to develop their skills and abilities on the pitch as well as receiving a classroom-based education.

The programme provides an opportunity for students who are passionate about football and their education, to combine the two as part of this course.

The curriculum provides students with an insight into what life would be like coaching in an academy setting through the way in which CITC staff deliver sessions.

One participant said: “I think it is amazing how we can combine the football course and education. It really makes me look forward to coming to the college knowing I am getting the qualification and having fun at the same time.

“You get lots of opportunities for your CV and that can really enhance your personal statement or portfolio, so when you do progress onto the next stage in our lives everything is laid out for us ready.”

Another added: “The coaches are really good. They praise you, as well as providing you with help and advice on how to improve, so you are constantly learning and developing.”

Head teacher Emma Soper said: “The programme is unique. It gives our students a real edge. By the time you finish the course you are a young person who stands out from the crowed, you have something unique to offer.”

Gary Lintern, Head of Faculty added: “Every day is a different highlight, from training on the pitch, to player appearances. You are not going to get that experience anywhere else. You’ve got a world class club on your doorstep.”

The team currently delivers in four sixth forms and colleges – Oldham College, Cheadle College, Ashton Sixth Form College, Connell Co-op College.

Coaches are able to adapt their approach, the content and physical activity session in order to best meet the requirements of the college/group that they are working with.
