To celebrate National Inclusion Week, the Club’s charity, City in the Community (CITC), is showcasing how it uses research to be as inclusive as possible.

This research project is called ‘Needs Analysis’ and was delivered as part of the charity’s new strategy for 2022-25.

The work included a situation analysis of the local landscape, to help determine local needs and priorities and, therefore, which programmes the charity should be delivering and prioritising over the next few years.

Each project team also underwent a programme review, assessing quality, outputs, and outcomes, as well as changes needed to achieve greater impact.

This important work contributes to CITC’s overall Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation framework, helping to formulate part of CITC’s upcoming annual report.

Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation manager, Natalie Sutcliffe said: “We are passionate about creating authentic opportunities for people across Greater Manchester and, through this work, can now cross-reference our current output against the make-up of our local community.

“As a result, we can adapt our programmes to make sure they are accessible for the people who need them most, as well as identify locations or groups who may not currently be able to access our provision.

“It is important that, as a charity, we never stand still and are always listening to and learning from the changing landscape of our community.

“This is a great step to ensuring City in the Community is, and continues to be, the most inclusive charity possible for Greater Manchester.”

The ‘Needs Analysis’ core purpose is to authentically evidence NEED, CONTEXT and EFFECTIVENESS.

Priority learnings from the project include refocusing our provision in Manchester and close to the stadium footprint, increasing mental health support across all programmes and better capturing and demonstrating participant voice to create meaningful and informed changes for the future.
