International Day of Families is a day organised by the United Nations which aims to provide an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase the knowledge of social, economic, and demographic processes affecting families.
Commenting on the session, Keira said: “When I was younger, I used to participate in sessions like this with my Mum and Dad. I would also be on the field playing football.”
“I think it is so important for kids to get outside and enjoy this sort of activity with their family.”
“When I joined teams, I had already built up my confidence to play because I had started so young, and it even gave me the confidence to do what I do now. So, it is great that City in the Community is delivering these sessions.”
The City Play Together initiative aims to help get families and their children aged two to five taking part in physical activity together.
Carl Burke, CITC Early Years Officer said: “City Play Together sessions give us a unique opportunity to not only impact participants between the ages of 2 and 5 years old, however the whole family, or at least one parent/guardian.”
“This allows us to impact whole families, showing the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle within our sessions, providing opportunities for grownups to develop their own skills, growing their confidence to play at home and carry on the work we do at the sessions throughout the week”
The sessions are currently held at three youth centres across Greater Manchester. As well as this, special school holiday sessions take place out of term time.
Participants can simply turn up and play or if you would like more information, please email cityplay@cityfootball.com.
