To mark International Day of Families on May 15, Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol paid a visit to the City in the Community (CITC)’s City Inspires programme.

Gvardiol sat down with participants from Chorlton High School to discuss what qualities he believes make a great family member, whether that be a relative or anyone else you consider a family member.

Talking with the students Gvardiol said: “You need to be the person that you want to be surrounded by. You guys need to be here for each other and help each other in tough moments.”

Discussing how City Inspires sessions make them feel part of a family, one participant said: “It’s a really respectful atmosphere, we all respect and listen to each other and we’ve all made really good friends.”

Another participant added: “It’s brought us together as a group and we can support each other across the week.”

Partnered with the Premier League, City Inspires aims to use the appeal of Manchester City to work with secondary school learners who are at risk of not reaching their potential, and to support them through the education system and into early adulthood.

CITC coaches deliver a high-quality education curriculum that inspires pupils to succeed and excel academically, physically, and socially.

The programme provides an opportunity for pupils to learn essential life skills, with a focus of improving their engagement in education, prosocial behaviours, and mental well-being.

The team currently delivers in a number of different high schools and Pupil Referral Centres throughout Greater Manchester.

Coaches are able to adapt their approach, the curriculum content and physical activity sessions in order to best meet the requirements of the school/group they are working with.

City Inspires is not limited to working with just mainstream secondary schools. For more information, email Jonathan.Pauley@cityfootball.com.
