Pep Guardiola says his players have to rise to the incredible challenge they have been presented with in order to create Premier League history.

The Blues are chasing an unprecedented fourth successive title and now face second-placed Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Asked whether his team had maybe always not had the best of luck with various decisions over the years at Anfield, he said: “When that happens you have to perform better.

“We cannot in this stadium control what happens so you have to do better.

“You have to overcome the situations. It’s not the first and it won’t be the last time, so you have to do better in order to challenge, otherwise it will be difficult in that case to win.

“To do the big achievement and win a fourth league title in a row - which nobody has done, ever - this is the type of challenge we have to face. Overcome absolutely everything.

“On Sunday, we will perform well and whatever happens we still have many games to play.

“On Wednesday, it was in or out. Next week [against Newcastle], it is in our out in the FA Cup.

“But knowing and accepting this is a really, really important game in the Premier League, I have the feeling there are many games left.

“We handle our own performance and be who we are as a team. If this happens it happens - we will see.”
