City in the Community is delighted to have launched a new promotional video for its ‘City BTEC’ programme.

The short film showcases the unique elements of CITC’s City BTEC course and college sessions, including high quality education, trips and volunteer opportunities.

The course aims to be totally inclusive, offering places to both male and female participants without trials.

Sitting under CITC’s Healthy Futures pillar, the programme provides an opportunity for students who are passionate about football and their education, to combine the two as part of this course.

Dave Jones, Sports Programme Leader at Oldham College commented on the course, saying: “The City in the Community course provides a unique platform where students not only enhance their academic studies but also foster meaningful connections with peers, creating a strong foundation for personal and professional relationships.

“The CITC course encourages a holistic approach to students’ development, blending academic rigor with social interaction, helping students build friendships, strengthen their self-confidence, and prepare for future career opportunities in a dynamic, supportive environment.”

The curriculum provides students with an insight into what life would be like coaching in an academy session, through the way in which CITC staff deliver sessions.

Molly, a second-year participant, said: “I have really enjoyed my time on the course. I have had two great football coaches which have taught me a lot of skills and tactics on the pitch.

“The coaches take the time to do analysis lessons with us and give us feedback on what we can improve on in our game.

“They care a lot about our improvement in the game, but they also care a lot about helping us off the pitch learning tactics to make our game better. Everyone is very supportive as coaches and help us with anything we need across college.”

During their 2023/2024 reporting year CITC delivered 771 BTEC sessions, across 1571 hours to 221 unique participants.

80% of those participants said the course improved their physical and mental wellbeing.

The team currently delivers in three sixth form and colleges, Oldham College, Ashton Sixth Form and Connell College.

Coaches are able to adapt their approach, the content and physical activity sessions in order to best meet the requirements of the college/group that they are working with.
