Pep Guardiola says City will not give any thought to the huge clash with Liverpool until after the Champions League game with FC Copenhagen.

City moved back to within a point of the leaders with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

It sets up a mouthwatering clash between the top two sides at Anfield but first we have the second leg of our Round-of-16 tie with Copenhagen on Wednesday at 20:00 (UK).

We claimed a 3-1 lead from the first leg in Denmark, but Guardiola will not take anything for granted with the European game his focus rather than the Premier League title race.

“We have FC Copenhagen, not today, but tomorrow they will be on my mind before we talk about Liverpool,” he said.

On the title race, Guardiola added: “We have a lot of points still to play for and different places to go, that is my feeling. Arsenal here, Aston Villa and many places - for all four contenders to win the Premier League.

“But FC Copenhagen first in the Champions League. I know 1-3 is a good result but we have to be careful.

“We won 1-3 in Leipzig in the group stage and within 10 minutes we were 0-2 and a potential red card or a complication or whatever.

“So we have to be careful, and today in my mind is not Copenhagen. However tomorrow morning it’s just Copenhagen and after Wednesday night I will think about Liverpool.”

A Phil Foden double and goal from Erling Haaland secured the Manchester derby victory as we made it 15 wins from our last 16 matches in all competitions since the defeat at Aston Villa in early December.

City’s run includes comeback wins against Everton, Newcastle, and now United and Guardiola praised the mentality of his players.

“What we won in the past that gives us the confidence,” he said.  “This kind of game the only problem is when you are losing you lose composure and if that happens you lose 0-3.

“United live for that on the transitions and they really good at that. We managed it well, the first minutes of second half was not our best, but that’s normal after half-time.

“Phil scored one goal then our people [helped us to] the second and the third. The mood and the environment helped us score the next two.”
