The Italian was instrumental in the goal which sealed our first Premier League title, grabbing his only assist of the season when he played the ball into Aguero’s path.
However, as part of his contribution to the upcoming ‘93:20: The Ultimate Premier League Finale’ documentary that will be released on Friday’s ten-year anniversary, Balotelli has revealed that his initial instinct was to go for goal when receiving possession on the edge of the QPR box.
Confronted with a wall of visiting defenders, the former City forward instead reacted to the situation to play a crucial role in the most dramatic final day in Premier League history.
He reflected: “I remember (Nigel) De Jong took the ball, and then I saw Sergio (Aguero) moving out the area, because everyone was waiting for a long shot.
“When you have to score, normally everyone goes in the area and put the ball in the air, but when I saw Sergio going out of the area I thought in my head ‘maybe he needs a one-two’.
“When he gave me the ball, I controlled it to shoot, I wanted to shoot.
“I don’t remember who was with me, the defender from QPR, but he pushed me, the ball went a bit too far and then I saw Sergio running and (Vincent) Kompany running the other.
“I slid and tried to give it to him in the space. I was trying to control and shoot fast, but I didn’t have the time, so when the defender came, I saw a full wall of players.”
