From a position of control and dominance at 2-0 up early in the second half, City first saw Palace narrow the deficit 14 minutes from time before a 95th minute Michael Olise penalty snatched an unlikely point for the Eagles after Phil Foden was adjudged to have fouled Jean-Philippe Mateta in the box.
It was the third successive Premier League draw at the Etihad, with Palace’s injury time leveller following on from late equalisers we have conceded against Chelsea and Spurs in the past month.
“I would like to know,” Guardiola said. “I always had the feeling how we create and how the opponent have done it. How many chances we have created.
“This is the balance for me and it’s important but the football… it’s how we close the games. Don’t give away the penalty and the game will be over.

“If Phil [Foden] or Berni [Bernardo Silva] keep the ball in that position the game will be over. When they arrive there, they have quality.
“The physicality from Crystal Palace has always been really, really good. Before with [Wilfried] Zaha, [Jordan] Ayew, [Odsonne] Edouard and now with Olise and [Eberechi] Eze they have top exceptional players. They defend really well with a good structure.
“We were patient enough and of course we had enough chances to score more goals. Definitely. There were 10 players in the 18-yard box. Literally 10 players there so it’s difficult.
“They didn’t want to come out to make transitions and create more spaces. In that moment up to the last minute at 2-1 it’s over.
“But they make one action and always you have the emotions, and we have to control it better.
“We have to control it better in that situation.”
