Pep Guardiola says Jack Grealish’s injury is not as bad as first feared and hopes to have the winger back in the next few weeks.

The England international looked visibly upset when he was forced off with a muscle injury early in our 3-1 Champions League victory at FC Copenhagen.

Grealish missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea and after the match, Guardiola said he didn’t expect to be without him for too long.

“It’s not that much, not that worse than we expect,” he said. “Maybe 10 days, maybe three weeks, maybe a month. I think it’s less, so it’s good news.”

City were boosted by the return of Mateo Kovacic for the Chelsea game after missing recent matches through injury.

Julian Alvarez was back in the starting line-up after being on the bench in Copenhagen with the Argentinian the only player to start every Premier League game this season.

Guardiola explained his importance to the side with his goal threat and ability to play between the lines proving important.

“Well, he’s a guy with a sense of goal,” he added. “The movements between lines and have another guy when teams defend so, so deep.

“It happens quite often, to have a guy who senses a goal is important. He plays because he deserves it.

“In the absence of Erling for two months he was a key point we feel. He was really good in those terms.”
