The Spaniard got his hands on his first domestic title on Tuesday evening, with Manchester United’s defeat to Leicester confirming City as champions with three games to spare.
It’s just rewards for the 24-year-old who, in a season like no other, has been a consistent and disciplined performer at the base of Pep Guardiola’s midfield.
His role has not only been crucial in maintaining the team’s shape, but also in building our momentum in possession and allowing those further forward to flourish.
It’s an often unassuming but essential role, and one thats value has never been lost on his teammates.

And Rodrigo echoed that sentiment by lifting the lid on the close relationship the players have with each other, and its importance in securing the title.
“Big trophies, you only win with big teams,” he declared.
“Of course we are teammates but we are more than that, we are friends.
“We almost live the same life as a second family.
“And we spend lots of times in the hotel, here in CFA, playing games with good moments, bad moments and emotions in the middle.
“It’s a celebration of this success of the hard work. Everyone has taken part and responsibility of this.”
