The Club’s charity, City in the Community (CITC), has released another video in its participant story-telling series, ‘We Are City in the Community’.

Each month CITC will spotlight its work and programmes through the voices and stories of its participants across Manchester.

The third video see’s Ben Wilson, discuss how his confidence and love of football has grown since attending CITC One City Disability sessions.

Ben, said: “The sessions make me feel confident about playing football and it is a place where I can express my emotions.”

CITC’s One City Disability sessions provide a safe, inclusive, environment for persons with all disabilities to enjoy and get involved sporting activates and footballing opportunities, no matter their ability.

Disabilities are not always visible, and it is a key part of CITC’s One City Disability programme to provide a safe environment for all no matter if their disability is visible or not.

Scott, Ben’s Dad, said: “Ben is always keen to come [to the sessions]. It is great for his health, it is great for his social, he loves joining in, he feels so at home here and for me as well, I get to chat to the parents, and it is a bit of time out.”

International Day of Persons with Disabilities aims to further promote the message that ‘Not all disabilities are visible’.

CITC also make use of the Etihad’s Stadium Sensory Room which caters to people with a variety of disabilities, including autism, providing them with a space to enjoy the football without experiencing loud crowd noise.

CITC invite their partner SEN schools to the stadium to use the sensory room space and experience the benefits of innovative sensory technology built into the space with the stadium in a comfortable environment for them.

Keep an eye out next month for another We are City in the Community video.
