Each month CITC is spotlighting its work and programmes through the voices and stories of its participants across Manchester.
The seventh video in the series sees Amirah discuss her developing confidence through the programme, and how she felt empowered by the topics discussed as well as by her CITC coach.
Amirah said: “The programme has already helped me to be more confident, so when I grow up now, the confidence is a part of me.
“The programme has also made me feel empowered as a female, through providing us with opportunities to speak to females who have empowered me and inspired me to who I want to be in the future.”
Georgia Dickinson, Community Outreach Lead Coach for Girls and Amirah’s session lead said: “Amirah has grown so much from when she first started the session.
“I have seen her confidence grow leaps and bounds, she has become a key individual in sparking important and interesting conversations, all skills that encompass the main values of our Changemakers participants”.
The City Girls project engages female participants with free football training, leadership and mentoring opportunities.
Through after-school clubs and community satellites, girls across Greater Manchester have the regular opportunity to play for free with CITC.
Using the power of football and brand of Manchester City, the City Girls project aims to provide safe spaces for girls to engage in football, improve their physical and mental wellbeing and develop their leadership skills.
Amirah’s video forms part of CITC’s month long spotlight on its City Girls programme, helping to celebrate International Women’s Day.
City in the Community empowers healthier lives with city youth through football.
