Play the game – not the occasion. That’s the message from City manager Gareth Taylor ahead of Wednesday night’s UEFA Women’s Champions League clash at home to Barcelona.

City open our European group stage campaign with an eagerly-awaited encounter at home to the reigning champions (kick-off 20.00pm).

The match-up with the Catalan giants has garnered widespread attention with the Joie Stadium clash sold out and the match set to feature a host of the women’s games most exciting stars.

However, addressing the media at his pre-match press conference the City boss said that the pre-match message to his players would be to focus purely on the task in hand.

“We always try to play the game not the occasion,” Taylor stressed.

“It’s a lot of build-up, it’s sold out at the Joie Stadium, everyone wants to see this game and we’re interested to see where we’re at.

“But my job is to control the controllables which is the next action in the game and not worry too much about what’s going on outside.

“It’s great to be here at the Joie with a full house playing one of the best sides. Tough but exciting.”
