Gareth Taylor says City’s win against Barcelona can take us to new heights, starting with a difficult assignment at Anfield this Sunday.

Goals from Naomi Layzell and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw saw the Blues get off to a winning start against the holders in our first Champions League Group D fixture.

City sit top of the WSL table as attentions turn back to our league action but face another challenging encounter this weekend against a Liverpool side who are yet to taste defeat in 2024/25.

But the boss feels our performance against Barcelona showed the levels his side are capable of.

He said of the Barca win: “It can ignite us, that’s what it can do. Because we’re so busy in this early part of the season, game after game sometimes we don’t get the opportunity to recognise what we’ve done.

“We’ve had a really positive start, game after game has been presented in front of us.

“It’s not been an easy start in terms of the opposition we’ve played, but the performance the other night, I was so proud of it regardless of the result.

“To have five clean sheets in six games against solid opponents is really positive for us.

“I’ve always spoken a lot about what we can do in possession and our identity but the big shift for us this season is without the ball. I think it’s going to help us a lot.”
