Hear from City’s two goalscorers after our Derby win...

Jess Park inspired City to a two goal advantage in the first-half, by volleying in Leila Ouahabi’s cross, before appearing at the far post to poke home Alanna Kennedy’s knock down after a well worked corner routine.

Khadija “Bunny” Shaw strengthened our lead immediately after the restart, after she latched onto Park’s pass and fired home to register her 68th career goal for City to see her overtake Georgia Stanway and become our all-time leading scorer.

United claimed a late consolation when Hannah Blundell’s cross was diverted in via Kerstin Casperij, but City resisted a late comeback and, at the time of writing, ensured City sat top of the WSL before Chelsea’s trip to West Ham United.

After scoring her first WSL goals for City against United at the Etihad, and claiming the player of the match award, Park expressed her delight.

“I’m absolutely buzzing,” the 22-year-old exclaimed.

“But like I’ve said before it’s the girls that help me do that with the confidence that they give me to play, always giving me angles to score, so absolutely brilliant from everyone today.”

A 2-0 lead is always somewhat of a dangerous scoreline at half-time, but Shaw explained how Gareth Taylor pushed his side to push for a third and what proved to be the Jamaican’s record-breaking goal.

“He told us to keep going and not let off,” Shaw began.

“I think in the first 20 minutes of the first-half we were a bit nervy, but once we hit our stride and got a few passes going we built confidence as the half went on.

“We kept going and tried to push in the first five, 10 minutes when we came out and luckily we got the goal to settle things down.”
