Steph Houghton says it a ‘massive honour’ to captain Manchester City after committing her future to the Club until 2024.

The colossal defender has agreed to a contract extension which will take her into her 10th year in Manchester following a tenure enriched in success.

Since arriving at the Academy Stadium in January 2014, Houghton has made a staggering 233 appearances in sky blue, while lifting eight major honours.

And the centre-back explained how she’s immensely grateful every day to be able to wear City’s captain’s armband.

She said: “It’s a massive honour, first and foremost [to captain City].

“To be captain of this Club, I kind of pinch myself every day that I’ve had that opportunity for so long. It’s not just me, there’s other leaders within the team.

“We have a young squad and, I said it at the end of the season, we didn’t really achieve what we wanted to this season, but I feel as though we have good people.

“People who want to work hard, they want to play for Manchester City and help us get to where we need to be. That’s competing for trophies and Champions Leagues. For me, I’m so excited.

“I know it’s the end of the season now, but I’m looking forward to next season already.”

 “[It’s a] massively [proud moment].

“To be able to be at this Football Club and this will be my 10th year is pretty special and for my family as well this has been my home for 10 years now and I love everything about the Club [and] the people who are here.

“It’s my club and to sign another year, I’m actually buzzing.”
