City u18s will be aiming to extend their winning run to eight games when they host Liverpool on Saturday.

The young Blues are in a scintillating vein of form, and the 4-1 win away to Middlesbrough last time out elevated Jason Wilcox’s men to the top of the league. Now two points clear at the summit, City will be keen to make home advantage count in the last fixture at Platt Lane of 2013.

Goals have been flooding in for the boy Blues, who have found the net 17 times in the last four matches. Thierry Ambrose has six in his last three appearances, while Ash Smith-Brown and Jorge Intima have both been on the scoresheet in the previous two games.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will come into the match off the back of a 3-1 home win over Manchester United.

The two teams met twice last season, with City running out 2-0 victors at Platt Lane, while the scoreline was reversed when the boy Blues visited Merseyside.

Reflecting on a strong league position and the challenges that lie ahead, Jason Wilcox told mcfc.co.uk: “Being top of the league helps them to develop as players because playing under that pressure, playing under that spotlight and knowing that you’ve got to keep winning is a good pressure to have.

“They’re doing really well and I am very happy with the progress. There’s still a long way to go but that is the exciting bit, so we’ve just got to do it slowly.
