Jason Wilcox’s men visit neighbours Manchester United on Saturday, looking to extend a winning run which stretches back as far as October.
The Reds themselves were the last team to prevent the boy Blues claiming all three points – but only a very late penalty to cancel out Daniel Lema’s opener denied City another victory in a quite remarkable season.
City now sit five points clear at the top of the u18 Premier League, five points clear of Everton in second place, and with two games in hand. The Blues are 10 points clear of United, who lie in fourth, having played the same number of games as their cross-town rivals.
Last time out, Sunderland fell victim to City’s dominance, going down 2-0 at Platt Lane. Kean Bryan and Bersant Celina were the scorers as the boy Blues ground out another victory in stormy conditions. The Norwegian now has four goals in his last three matches.
Wilcox’s charges also have a cup encounter with Fulham to look forward to in February, after progressing to the fifth round of the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
Meanwhile, United have lost their last two league games, to Newcastle and Bolton. However, they did triumph over Leicester in the FA Youth Cup to book a date with Huddersfield in the fifth round.
It’s sure to be a tasty encounter with both teams seeking to claim all three points, as well as the local bragging rights.
