City u18s travel to Merseyside on Saturday looking to return to winning ways.

Last week’s 2-1 defeat to Derby was the first of a fledgling league season for Jason Wilcox’s young side, who leapt straight to the top of the Premier League North Division with five wins in a row.

Now three points clear of nearest rivals Middlesbrough in second place, City will be aiming to extend that advantage with victory on Merseyside.

Liverpool are sure to present a tough test for Wilcox’s men – the young Reds have won three of their last four, although they sit five points behind City in the league.

The two sides faced off twice last season, with the boys in blue coming out on top on both occasions. Two stoppage time goals secured all three points at Platt Lane, while a second half comeback yielded a deserved victory in the return fixture courtesy of a goal apiece for Brandon Barker and Bersant Celina.

Since the encounter with Derby, seven u18s took their place in Patrick Vieira’s UEFA Youth League squad for the visit of Roma.

Line up

Skipper Tosin Adarabioyo played all 90 minutes of the 2-1 victory over the Italians, while Aaron Nemane entered the fray from the bench in the first half and Celina replaced Jack Byrne for the last 20 minutes.

Charlie Albinson, Tom Holland, Sam Tattum and Nathaniel Oseni were also on the subs bench.

Kick off is at 11am at the Liverpool Academy (L33 7ED). We’ll have updates on twitter and a match report right here on mcfc.co.uk after full time.
