An impressive opening day 4-0 triumph away at West Brom was followed on Saturday by a comprehensive 7-1 victory over Newcastle United at the CFA to leave City top of the Under-18 Premier League table after the first fortnight of the new season.
However, the Under-18s boss revealed that despite the convincing manner of the win over the junior Magpies – which included a hat-trick for midfielder James McAtee - he believes his players are capable of so much more.

“I am pleased with that aspect (two consecutive wins) and it was a good score line on Saturday, but I wasn’t happy with the players and I let them know that afterwards,” Taylor revealed.
“I thought we were poor in the second period and not great in the first.
“We work hard here day in, day out and the game at the end of the week is the icing on the cake and I felt that we too often came off the hymn sheet.
“They are a talented group and a good bunch of lads and we have high standards. That said, I thought there a few players who though they maybe didn’t have outstanding games were the vital glue that we needed which were Joe Hodge and James McAtee, CJ Egan-Riley and Sammy Robinson.
“I also thought our substitutions complemented things well. It was good to see Oscar Bobb in a blue shirt and I thought Luke Mbete-Tabu also did well.
“So, there were some positive signs like James getting a hat-trick after also scoring in our opening game but there are still things to work on.
“Ultimately, I always look at the performance as that is what you pride yourself on. We haven’t had a top performance, but the result was there.
“So, it’s a good start and we want to continue in the vein of achieving good results, but we also want performances to improve before we go into the international break.”
