The player who would earn the nickname ‘The Moston Menace’, signed professional forms in 2005 and made his debut a year later, aged 19, against Wigan Athletic in March 2006 as a sub and was used in an attacking midfield role rather than his preferred position of a striker.
He made his first full appearance six months later during a2-0 victory over West Ham, helping set up a goal and generally proving a handful for the Irons’ experienced defence.
Miller’s starring role against the Hammers – he made one 70-yard run that had the home crowd in raptures - should have been the start of something special, but he soon faded from the first-team picture
...The Graduates
With first-team opportunities hard to come by, City loaned him out to West Brom for the 2007/08 season and he made an instant impact for the Baggies, scoring after just seven minutes of his debut against Preston.
After a productive year at The Hawthorns, Miller returned to City but again found his chances limited so when West Brom came back with a permanent deal in January 2009, paying around £1m for his services.
He had started just three games for the Blues, making another 17 appearances from the bench.
Miller enjoyed his time with Albion and was popular with the club’s supporters, but an injury sustained in a collision with former City keeper David James, ruled the former Academy graduate out for 14 months, during which time Peter Odemwingie and Marc-Antoine Fortune arrived and prospered in his absence.
On his return, he was loaned out to QPR and then moved on a permanent deal to Nottingham Forest last summer where he will hope to re-launch his career at the City Ground– Twitter account withstanding!
