City U18s made it 15 games unbeaten with a 2-0 win against Liverpool on Saturday morning.

Manu Garcia and Lukas Nmecha grabbed the goals to seal the three points and ensure the 100% record in the Barclays U18 Premier League final stage remained.

The first period of the game was a fairly quiet one with both sides creating one noteworthy chance each.

First, Tosin Adarabioyo saw his header saved by Coaimhin Kelleher before Brooks Lennon was denied by Daniel Grimshaw, who was rarely troubled throughout.

The game kicked into life in the 36th minute when City took the lead. Brahim Diaz intercepted Kelleher’s clearance and he played in Garcia, who cooly slotted past the Liverpool goalkeeper.

The young Blues created three further chances prior to the half time whistle but couldn’t find a second goal. First, Nmecha was denied by the ‘keeper and the post before Brahim fired narrowly wide.

Jason Wilcox’s side continued their dominance at the start of the second half and came close to a second in the 49th minute.

Brahim burst down the byline and awaited for Aaron Nemane, whose first time effort was somehow blocked on the line by a combination of goalkeeper and defender.

The continued pressure paid off seven minutes later when Nmecha doubled the lead with a smart finish. Again, it was Brahim who played him in before the England international placed the ball beyond the reach of Kelleher to make it 2-0.

Jadon Sancho was introduced to the game in the 68th minute, replacing Manu Garcia and the 16-year old played a big part in creating City’s next chance.

He broke free of his marker and played a square pass to Brahim, who set himself and tried his luck from the edge of the area as he saw his shot fizz just over the bar.

The home side were consistently shut out by a solid City back line but they did create half a chance through Toni Gomes late on. Liverpool’s number nine drove towards the area and unleashed a low shot that was easy for Grimshaw to claim.

Wilcox’s side were able to see the game out with ease following that half-chance to seal the three points and make it 15 games unbeaten ahead of Friday’s FA Youth Cup final first leg at the Academy Stadium.
