Singaporean star Safuwan Baharudin opened his Melbourne City scoring account in the victory over Adelaide United.

The 23-year-old, the first Singaporean ever to play in the Hyundai A-League, scored Melbourne City’s first goal in their 3-1 comeback win over Adelaide United.

Head coach John van’t Schip said afterwards: “We’re very happy with him, he can play in the midfield, he can play defence so we are happy to have him.”

Versatile youngster Baharudin has 43 caps for his national team and caught Melbourne City’s eye during a recent training camp in Abu Dhabi.

Baharudin almost scored a second goal with an acrobatic effort as he proved a continued threat from set-pieces.

In the end goals from Melbourne City’s Josh Kennedy and Iain Moody sealed the victory.

Melbourne City moved up to sixth place in the A-League table with victory over third placed Adelaide and next visit Central Coast Mariners next Sunday.
