Former goalkeeper Alex Williams MBE has expressed his proudest moment with City to be the impact he has had on thousands of peoples lives during his time with the Club.

After 33 years of service to the Club’s charity, City in the Community, Williams will be retiring from his role at the end of August.

Earlier this month, Williams sat down with the official Manchester City podcast to chat about his career in between the sticks before joining the CITC, highlighting some of his most memorable moments which he is proudest of.

“One of the things I’m most proud of is what we as a Club and City in the Community have done to change and enhance people’s lives. We should be very proud of that,” said Williams when talking about the impact CITC has had on the Manchester’s community.

“We’ve changed a lot of people’s lives and we should, as a football club, not just because of me and CITC but as a Club we should be very proud of that.

“We’ve had some brilliant successes. I could talk all day about the people we’ve interacted with right down to a young man who works at the front door of security on a match day.

“We had him with us as a 16-year-old running round the parks at nighttime, running into all sorts of trouble. We turned his life around, he’s now got a full-time job as a security guard here at Manchester City. He’s got two kids, a lovely family and he puts that all down to CITC.

“And that’s one of 10 million stories I could sit here and tell you about. And that’s the biggest thing I feel proudest of is what we as a Club and CITC have done to change and improve people’s lives.”

Later in the podcast, Williams also talked with hosts Rob Pollard and Nedum Onuoha about how fans will still likely spot him around the CFA and Etihad but is looking forward to slowing things down.

“It’s great that I can walk around Manchester with my head held up high but everyone approaches me,” said Williams.

“It’s lovely and I think one of the nicest things is people feel comfortable approaching me which I think is nice.

“So it’s going to be nice in some ways to, not get away from it because it’s nice that people feel comfortable approaching me, but I just want to sort of chill a little bit.

“And I’ve still got lots of things to do. I’m going to be involved with the foundation I believe from an arm’s length. I’m still going to be around on matchdays doing work with the former players, we have pre-match activities as well.

“I’m still going to be very much involved with the Club just at a lesser level.”

The Club wish to thank Alex for all that he has done for the Club and it’s community through his dedication and hard work with CITC and wish Alex well in his well-earned retirement.
