To celebrate World Teacher Day, on October 4, Manchester City’s charity, City in the Community (CITC), is celebrating those connected to its programmes.

The Premier League Primary Stars programme aims to promote healthier lives through football and sits under the charity’s ‘Healthy People’ pillar.

CITC’s team of coaches work in 29 schools across 34 days in Greater Manchester, delivering high quality PE lessons to pupils aged six to 11 years old.

The programme aims to use the inspiration of Manchester City Football Club and the Premier League to engage pupils and teachers to lead healthier, more active lifestyles.

Along with pupil development, the programme also intends to improve teacher’s confidence and competence when delivering PE and School Sport, increasing children’s enjoyment and engagement. CITC coaches do this by providing CPD (continuing professional development) workshops for all of the teaching staff within partner schools.

Commenting on the CPD offered, Alicia, a teacher from Wilbraham Primary School said: “Our sessions with CITC are always a highlight of the children’s week. The activities are well structured, and their delivery is inspiring and supportive.

“The coaching CPD has been great, I have learnt lots of new activities and feel much more confident with how to support and stretch all the children in my class with a variety of different skills.”

CITC focus on guiding partner schools and teachers through detailed lesson plans, as well as offering in lesson, practical coaching to develop the teacher’s knowledge of activities as well and encourage them to deliver areas of CITC’s PE lessons.

From September 2023 to August 2024 CITC delivered CPD to 202 teachers.

With thanks to the Premier League Charitable Fund for their support of City in the Community’s work.
