Manchester City’s charity, City in the Community (CITC), is once again celebrating World Alzheimer’s Day by showcasing the activities that take place during its ReminisCITY sessions.

ReminisCITY was launched to create a dementia safe environment for participants to enjoy social and physical activity, through the conduit of football and Manchester City to promote active and engaged lifestyles in the face of the challenges dementia can bring.

Sessions run every Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium from 11am – 12pm.

City in the Community, mentoring manager, Jason El-Kaleh said: “The aim of the ReminisCITY programme is to create new support networks for our participants and their carers/ family members, whilst also providing a fun and engaging space to take part in activities run by CITC coaches.

“ReminisCITY is partnering with Believe and Achieve for the 23/24 season, and we would like to thank them for their support.”

Believe and Achieve model of support provides the framework for our Independent Living service, by helping to ensure that all our services are as individual as the people we support and are always goal orientated.

The provide accommodation and support tailored to individual needs and requirements.

ReminisCITY is a key offering, as part of CITC’s healthy people provision, using football to improve and enrich lives and communities in Manchester.

One session participant said: “It helps retrieve your memory and helps you remember what you have lost.”

World Alzheimer’s Month occurs annually throughout September with the aim to globally raise awareness around educate and encourage support and demystify dementia.

According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are currently 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is projected to rise to 1.6 million by 2040.

It’s estimated that more than 29,000 people in Greater Manchester are currently living with dementia.

Across Manchester, a fifth of people caring for someone with dementia feel socially isolated while 41% of people report they do not feel at all confident managing their loved ones dementia.
