Pep Guardiola’s side made it 21 successive victories in all competitions at the Etihad Stadium when we got the better of Brighton, setting a new Premier League record in the process.
Meanwhile, our Women’s team are currently on an unbeaten run of 27 matches in all competitions at the Joie Stadium, a run which stretches all the way back to November 2021 and also includes our draw with Manchester United at the Etihad in December of last year.
It’s an astonishing record for both Guardiola and Gareth Taylor’s sides to boast, and one that is broken down in greater detail below…
Timespan
City began our march to FA Cup glory, and our record-breaking run, on 8 January 2023 with a 4-0 win over Chelsea.
That means our current winning streak at the Etihad Stadium in all competitions currently stands at 292 days, spanning almost ten months at the time of writing.
For Gareth Taylor’s side, meanwhile, our unbeaten streak began with a 5-0 WSL win over Aston Villa on 21 November 2021.
Incredibly, that means City’s run without defeat began 706 days ago. Should we avoid defeat against Brighton in our next WSL clash at the Joie Stadium, then that record will span over a two-year period.
Eat my goal
Manchester City are famed for our fluid, attacking brand of football – a style which is cemented in each of our teams’ blueprints at both senior and youth levels.
It therefore comes as no surprise to learn that both our Men’s and Women’s sides have found the net with remarkable regularity during our recent home runs.
Pep Guardiola’s men have scored 67 times in just 21 matches, an average of over three per fixture, with an incredible 13 different members of the squad contributing to that total.
For Gareth Taylor’s side, our 27-match unbeaten run has seen us grab 93 goals, with an outstanding 21 different City players involved in finding the net.
Haaland and Shaw
Unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland and Bunny Shaw have topped the scoring charts so far during each of our incredible home records.
Haaland has found the net 22 times at the Etihad Stadium during City’s 21-match winning run, reinforcing his unique instinct in the final third.
And Shaw is no different, grabbing 24 goals across those 27 unbeaten fixtures at both the Joie Stadium and in that showpiece occasion against Manchester United at the Etihad.
The fact that both players broke records for goals across a single season in 2022/23 and are each nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or emphasises their remarkable talents on an even grander scale.
Defensive unit
City’s potent attack, however, is complemented by a steely defence.
Alongside those 67 strikes in all competitions, Pep Guardiola’s side have shipped just 10 at the other end, grabbing 13 clean sheets in 21 matches in the process.
Our Women’s team have kept 14 clean sheets in that 27-match unbeaten run, conceding on 16 occasions during that timeframe.
It leaves each of our sides with remarkable goal differences of +57 and +77 respectively.
