Following our recent Club World Cup success, one of the first fans to see all five trophies in person was lifelong City fan and member of the Irlam and Cadishead Official Supporters Club, Michael Hunt.

Michael is a 78-year-old lifelong City fan whose son, also called Michael, is named after City legend Mike Summerbee. His family, including his sons, daughter and son-in-law have been season ticket members for over 30 years.

Michael experienced a cardiac arrest during City’s home match against Bournemouth in November. Though Michael is now recovering at home after six weeks in hospital, the family acknowledge that without the quick response from the on-site medical team, events may have been different on the day.

Having recovered very well since, the Club decided to surprise Michael by taking all five trophies to his home so he, and his family and friends, could all enjoy a special moment together.

After the visit, Michael had said: “I’ve been a fan for many years, I can’t remember who my first game was at Maine Road, but it was the mid-1960s. I’ve taken all my family to games, my two sons and daughter are season ticket holders, as well as my son-in-law too and all the grandkids are growing up blues.

“It’s been fantastic to see City win so many trophies this past year, the last few years will really take some beating.

“I can’t believe the five trophies have been in my house today, it will all sink eventually I suppose when I start looking at the photographs – it really is unreal. It’s a brilliant gesture and I just couldn’t believe it, I still can’t, it means a lot, it shows what sort of a club it is.”
