In both our men’s and women’s home league fixtures, on Saturday 4 November and Sunday 12 November respectively, our fans and players will come together to pay their respects with a minute’s silence.
The men’s home activation will take place before our Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.
Before kick-off, Pep Guardiola will lay a wreath pitch side while another will be placed in the Club’s Memorial Garden earlier that day. This will be followed by a performance of the Last Post and all fans and Club representatives will take part in a minute’s silence.
On the morning of the fixture against Bournemouth, members of the recently established Military Veterans OSC will join City in the Community Military Veterans Football Team for a journey steeped in history.
The journey will begin with a service at the Southern Cenotaph to commemorate Frank Swift, former City goalkeeper and veteran who sadly perished in the Munich Air Disaster. Then, in three groups, the volunteers will cover 19.43km prior to arrival at the Etihad Stadium. On their way, the volunteers will meet at 11am for a memorial service at the Manchester Cenotaph, followed by a service at The Commonwealth War Graves in Blackley.
The journey is tied to fundraising by the OSC in aid of City in the Community and several charities supporting those who have served in the military.
During our men’s team fixtures against Bournemouth and Chelsea, all our shirts will feature a poppy motif, and those worn by City players in both matches will be donated to the Royal British Legion to raise money for charity.
Meanwhile, our Women’s team will also pay their respects during the Remembrance period. Ahead of the Brighton fixture, Gareth Taylor will also lay a wreath pitch side to pay his respects on Remembrance Sunday, and there will be a minute’s silence.
In their upcoming fixtures against Arsenal and Brighton, our women’s shirts will also feature a poppy motif, and those worn by City players in both matches will be donated to the Royal British Legion.
Meanwhile, our Academy Teams will also take the time to reflect during their upcoming matches.
Our Under-12 Team will take part in the annual Remembrance fixture with Manchester United at Carrington. This will include reading, poetry, and the exchange of shirts as a mark of respect, whilst also remembering the fallen soldiers who have represented both clubs. After the game, the boys will attend a joint meal in solidarity together.
Meanwhile, our Under-12 Team will also take part in the annual Christmas Truce project, which will see our team participating in an education project for a place in the Christmas Truce tournament held in Ypres, Belgium.
Finally, during the weekend of Remembrance Sunday, all our youth teams and staff will participate in a minute’s silence ahead of their fixtures.
