City legend Mike Summerbee has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

The former winger, who has been associated with the Club for over 50 years, has been recognised for his services to football and charity.

Summerbee spent a decade at City in the late 60s and early 70s, winning every domestic honour, the European Cup Winners’ Cup and eight England caps.

He has served as a Club Ambassador since announcing his retirement, while also supporting both Prostate Cancer UK after recovering from the disease, and Manchester’s Christie Hospital, a specialist cancer treatment centre.

The 79-year-old has campaigned to raise awareness of prostate cancer for almost a decade, having been diagnosed back in 2012.

Two years later, having overcome the disease, he supported Prostate Cancer UK’s Men United v Prostate Cancer campaign, and was guest of honour for the charity at the 2018 Carabao Cup final between City and Arsenal at Wembley.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Mike on his fully deserved award.
