This follows the Club’s participation in the safe standing trial that ran for the second half of the 2021/22 season, with the results of the trial published today highlighting rail seating’s positive impact on supporter safety.
As a result, Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston has announced a change in policy to allow licensed standing across all-seated grounds, subject to meeting the Sports Ground Safety Authority’s criteria.
All ticket holders in the Club’s rail seating section in the South Stand of the Etihad Stadium will therefore continue to have the option of standing, should they wish to do so.
Commenting on the announcement, Danny Wilson, Managing Director of Manchester City Operations, said:
“We are delighted that we can continue to utilise close to six thousand rail seats at the Etihad Stadium, and we know that this news will be welcomed by our fans who have consistently voiced their support for safe standing.
“Since becoming an early adopter of rail seating at the start of this year, our work with the Sports Ground Safety Authority has shown its positive impact on supporter safety. In doing so, we have demonstrated the long-term viability of rail seating at the Etihad Stadium.”
