City’s four major honours visited North America at the start of December following successful trips to Greece, China, India, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Norway and Belgium.
The US stop of the Treble Trophy Tour started in San Francisco, California, passing through New York, NY and ending in Washington, D.C. — a journey covering four time zones and nearly 2900 miles by air and road.
We hosted official watch parties in each city, with New York City featuring an intimate event for supporters club members only, including a meet-and-greet with club legend Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Day one began with a trip to the Presido national park of San Francisco, which overlooks the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, before visits to Pier 7 and a cable car ride near Fisherman’s Wharf.
Next on the agenda was a collaboration with NBA team Golden State Warriors where our major honours sat alongside their national basketball championships while Moonchester tried his hand at the sport.
We were then honoured to meet current Warriors player Gary Payton II who was thrilled to meet Moonchester and do a virtual shirt swap with Erling Haaland. He said he was introduced to City by his friend Alex Caruso, who plays for the Chicago Bulls.
The day concluded with a short trip over the bridge from San Francisco to Oakland to SoFive, where after-school football players enjoyed photos with the trophies.
As City hosted Tottenham on Sunday 3 December, our watch party on the second day was sold-out at the historic Pier 70 in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco.
A lucky supporter won a shirt signed by the entire men’s first team and fans were able to purchase NFTs of iconic City moments thanks to Asahi’s activation.
The day-long event gave those in attendance the chance to have photos with our iconic trophies and children were provided with excellent coaching sessions.
New York was the next stop on the tour on the third day and in the first 48 hours in the epic state our trophies posed in front of the Brooklyn Bridge before Wright-Phillips and the major honors visited the CBS/Paramount+ studios.
While there, they featured on the ‘Morning Footy’ programme, where he played City-themed trivia games with the hosts before getting a surprise visit from his brother, Bradley Wright-Phillips, who retired as a footballer at New Jersey, NJ, after a record-setting career with the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer.
Day five saw members of the New York Sky Blues Official Supporters Club attend the screening for Pep Guardiola’s side’s visit to Aston Villa.
They met at Amity Hall in Greenwich Village, Manhattan and, despite the 1-0 defeat, hundreds of fans lined up for trophy photos and a meet-and-greet with Wright-Phillips.
The former City winger and our trophies were given a private tour of the Empire State Building on day six, including a visit to the exclusive 103rd-story observation deck, before it opened for the day.
A visit to Saturdays Football store followed where the store owners had selected their favorite Shaun-related vintage City kits to hear about his favorite memories of them.
Shortly after, Shaun and the trophies all went to Joe’s Pizza, an iconic pizza shop in Greenwich Village – the place where Jack Grealish visited and praised on his last holiday to New York.
Wright-Phillips received a pizza-making lesson, attempting to throw the dough, and then made a ‘treble pie’ with three different meat toppings, and attempted to fire it himself in the oven.
The sixth day concluded with a visit to PUMA’s flagship NYC store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue and the event was open to the public where Wright-Phillips fulfilled an autograph signing and took pictures with supporters.
That concluded our visit to New York and Baltimore was up next on day seven when we visited he Baltimore Ravens’ practice facility in Baltimore, Marylan.
The City crew met all of the Ravens players as they finished practice for the day, including a Shaun shirt swap with Odell Beckham, Jr. What’s more, Shaun also met head coach John Harbaugh.
Washington DC was next on the itinerary and Shaun and the mascots visited kits at Neval Thomas Elementary, a project of nonprofit DC Scores, where kids learn special subject immersion in football and poetry.
He then challenged the kids to a poetry and rhyming competition, and we heard a few spoken word performances by students, before the children got to enjoy skills coaching in the gym.
Our second to last day in the States began with a Trophy Tour photo shoot on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, looking out at the Washington Monument and reflecting pool.
The British Embassy kindly invited City to a holiday-decorations open house at the White House, where the crew got to take a self-guided tour through the White House’s Christmas display, entertained by military bands and choruses.
Our trophies then attended a pre-match party at the Washington Capitals (NHL hockey) stadium.
This was part of a joint promotion where City Supporters Club members could buy a discounted Capitals ticket and also get a guaranteed trophy photo.
Before the game, SWP exchanged shirts with Capitals legend Alan May, a famous former “enforcer” in hockey.
The wonderful trip to the USA concluded with a match screening at the historic Union Stadion where there were more than 1000 attendees, including OSC members from Washington DC — our largest in the US — as well as Delaware, Philadelphia, even Birmingham, Alabama.
Wright-Phillips took part in a great Q&A session and gave away a signed shirt to a lucky supporter before photo opportunities and coaching for kids were provided by City coaches!
