Five special schools from Manchester and one from Stockport entered the 5-a-side tournament, which saw all teams play each other in a round robin format, with the two top teams playing off in a final.
After some exciting and closely-fought games, Melland High School from Gorton and a team of hearing impaired pupils from Manchester Academy in Moss Side made it through to the final, which Manchester Academy won 1-0.
The tournament was of an exceptionally high standard in terms of ability and fair play between schools with everyone enjoying the event. Each of the schools involved have previously participated in CITC’s ‘One City’ disability programme, and the tournament provided an opportunity for young people with disabilities to play competitive football in a safe and friendly environment.
Furthermore, Jamie Pratt was called up to the England Cerebral Palsy development squad at Lilleshall for the Home Nations Cerebral Palsy Championship and some intensive training. Jamie, who plays for Manchester City Stars F.C in the Greater Manchester Ability Counts football league, now has his sights set on breaking into the first team.
His team mate Jordan Raynes played in goal at the tournament and was promoted to captain, with England eventually winning the tournament by defeating Scotland 1-0.
