Elite Development Squad boss Brian Barry-Murphy has called for his players to focus only on themselves in Tuesday's UEFA Youth League showdown against Paris Saint-Germain.

City earned an impressive 5-1 victory over RB Leipzig Under-19s in our opening European encounter, but an away fixture in the French capital offers a fresh challenge for our young blues.

Barry-Murphy is excited to see how we handle that test, and is confident that the players are capable of handling the occasion.

He explained: “They (PSG) will be a highly talented team, going away from home will be a great test of us and the real focus is to show the best version of ourselves.

“We have a clear way of playing no matter what challenges are told of us, we have to stick with that the whole time and that will be really tested this week.

“I’m sure the lads will answer every question that is asked and we are very confident that we will play well.”

Our EDS’ strong start to the season is mirrored on a domestic front, as we find ourselves top of Premier League 2 with an unbeaten record.

Indeed, our only defeat in any competition so far came at the hands of Doncaster Rovers in the Papa John’s Trophy, when we fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat.

As the games come thick and fast, Barry-Murphy hopes that his players continue to show the sort of fight already demonstrated in the campaign’s opening stages.

“We are trying to build and improve all the time,” he said.

“I think it is going to be a very different test but its a brilliant week and its been an amazing experience for us going from Doncaster, now onto Paris and then back (at the City Football Academy) again on Saturday.

“It’s an amazing experience for the players and all I can really ask of them is that they show that mentality and that desire to push right until the end.

“As a group we will improve our skills and the way we play consistently all season whether we win or are losing.”
