Under-18 head coach Carlos Vicens hailed our Premier League Under-18 National Final triumph against Fulham as the perfect way to end an amazing season.

Fresh from last week’s Under-18 North title success, the City youngsters produced a fine display against the Southern title holders at the Academy Stadium to secure a deserved 3-1 victory.

Three first half goals from Sam Edozie, Carlos Borges and Oscar Bobb were enough to help secure a hugely impressive win against the visitors from Craven Cottage.

And it rounded off an unforgettable campaign with City having won the PL2 title, Under-18 North and National crowns after earlier lifting the 2020 FA Youth Cup.

“It’s been a long and tough season and I cannot think of a better way than finishing it,” the Under-18 head coach asserted.

Last week we had the victory at Burnley which saw us win the Under-18 North title and now this today.

“It has been amazing season for the Academy.

“We started very well in November when we won our first FA Youth Cup for a while and then both league titles in the PL 2, and Under-18 North and to crown it today with the national title has been amazing

“We knew it would be a tough one. Fulham have had a great season and are tough to play against and to play through.

“We had to work and be very precise and clinical in how we played.

“It was not easy at times to play out but the three goals in the first half put us in a great place and we are very happy.”

In reflecting both on today’s showpiece victory and the season as a whole, Vicens also highlighted the positive mindset and application demonstrated time and again by his young players.

“I don’t think you can win trophies without personality and character,” the head coach asserted.

“In the final - and even in the title race when we had to win seven games in a row to become champions - you need that composure and personality and to have players who can play under pressure.

“And I think it’s great learning for these players one day might face in the first team either here or wherever they go in their careers.

“Being able to play under pressure is not easy and I think these players showed that they can do it.”
