Finley Burns, Tommy Doyle and Cole Palmer are keeping their feet firmly on the ground ahead of Manchester City's Premier League 2 title run in.

Our Elite Development Squad (EDS) currently sit top of the table, five points ahead of second place Blackburn Rovers with five games to go.

The City youngsters have lit up the Premier League 2 this campaign, scoring a remarkable 62 goals in 19 league games, including 25 in our last six outings.

Enzo Maresca‘s side also go into the business end of the campaign on the back of an impressive 13-game unbeaten run, putting us in pole position heading into the final five games.

However, Palmer believes it is important he and his teammates take it game-by-game as they bid to lift the title.

“The mood is good,” he said.

“We will just take it game by game. We’re confident as always, and if we play like we have done we should be alright.

“The feeling is to just kick on now and stay top of the league.”

Fellow midfielder and captain, Doyle, agrees.

The 19-year-old, who has made seven appearances for the first team, has been one of City’s key men this season and he says Maresca’s young side are aiming to finish the campaign in style.

“I think we have just got to keep pushing ourselves,” he added.

“We don’t want to draw, we don’t want to lose - we want to win. We are at a club where we should be winning and we’ve got the players who want to win.”

Whilst Doyle was a regular in the EDS last season, Burns was one of a number of players to make the step up from the Under-18s for the 2020/21 campaign.

It’s an experience he’s enjoyed and one he feels he has benefited from in what he has found to be a more physically demanding league.

Having helped the Under-18s to the 2019/20 national title, the defender is relishing the prospect of repeating the trick with the EDS.

“I’ve learnt from playing against older boys,” he said.

“Physically I’ve had to toughen up a bit so it’s been great for me. We are such a young team so to go and win this would be a great achievement so we are very happy with our form.”

The City youngsters restart their title charge after this month’s international break, when we take on Liverpool at the Academy Stadium on April 9 at 19:00 (UK).

The game will be available to watch live on City+, and you can sign up to a 30-day free trial, after which it is just £1.99GBP / month.
