The victory at the Sands Venue Stadium included three fine goals from Cole Palmer, Luke Bolton and James McAtee as our youngsters impressed in our first game in Group E.
Following on from Tuesday night’s triumph, head coach Barry-Murphy was keen to express his excitement looking forwards to the squad’s future potential.
Barry-Murphy also made it clear that our upcoming group fixtures against Rotherham and Doncaster will be a challenge, but one which the team will take in their stride.

“I think the biggest thing in terms of player development and their development both individually and collectively is that we want to stay in the competition as long as we can and get more experience” Barry-Murphy stressed.
“That means we have to try and do our very, very best and progress.
“This season will inevitably throw up a lot of twists and turns and there will be setbacks along the way – we saw that when we were losing in our first home game.
“But all you can ask from the group is that they push themselves as hard as possible individually and collectively and they guys have got good focus.
“Games like last night are brilliant evenings for us and a great challenge to see how we can perform against that type of opposition.
“The match type situation that we encountered just can’t be created. I know the players value this competition amazingly highly.

“It’s obviously a long way down the line but the end of this where this competition ends is always at the back of every player’s mind and that adds to the importance of what we want to try and achieve.
“I’m really privileged to be working with them on a daily basis and I feel as if I can push them on and help them improve.”
