City made history on Monday after being winning the Under-23 title for the first time in our history in the wake of Blackburn’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
It was a wonderful achievement – and the title was secured with three games of the season still to go.
Ahead of the trip to East London, head coach Enzo Maresca once again paid handsome tribute to his entire EDS squad – and stressed how the desire to constantly improve had underpinned our whole success this term.
“For everyone it has been a tough season but all of the lads – the entire squad - have given everything,” Maresca reflected.
“It has been a fantastic journey and a fantastic achievement, especially the way we have achieved it, and I think we deserve it.
“But every game we always try to improve the lads and we always demand how we can get good results.
“So as a staff we are so happy for the players and the way we have achieved this target.
“In different moments of the season all of them have been important.
“You cannot play every game – you need 20 players there and they have been always ready to play their part.
“Thanks to the players and the people I work with they have helped me a lot... its an achievement for us all.
“Now we want to enjoy it and celebrate on the pitch.”
