The 20-year-old centre-half will spend the 2023/24 campaign with Boro, who were promoted into League One last season after finishing runners-up to Leyton Orient.
Initially signed aged 13 from Southend United, Burns was a member of the City side which lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2020 as well as being part of our Under-18 Premier League North title winning squad that same season.
The tall, imposing and mature defender penned his first professional contract with City in July 2020 and was a key part of the Premier League 2 winning campaign in 2020/21.
The following term, the England Under-20 international was handed his first team debut in City’s 6-1 Carabao Cup win over Wycombe in September 2021, playing the full 90 minutes.
Burns signed a long-term contract in January 2022, taking him through to June 2027, and, later in that month, he joined Swansea City on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.
He played his part in the EDS side’s third successive PL2 title win this past 2022/23 season as well as playing in the UEFA Youth League as we topped Group G before eventually going out at the Round of 16 stage to Hajduk Split.
Everyone at Manchester City wishes Finley the best of luck during his spell with Stevenage.
