Academy youngster Finley Burns has signed a new long-term contract with Manchester City.

The 18-year-old central defender, who made his senior City debut earlier this season, has penned a deal that will take him through to June 2027.

Burns, who has been at the Club for more than five years, was a key part of City’s Elite Development Squad which lifted the Premier League 2 title last term.

He has been in impressive form for our Under-23s once again this season and has made 13 appearances to date for Brian Barry-Murphy’s side in PL2 as well as making five appearances in our UEFA Youth League campaign.

Tall, imposing and comfortable in possession, Burns’ progress was further recognised when he was afforded his first-team debut in September, playing the full 90 minutes in City’s 6-1 Carabao Cup third round victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

Finley was also a member of the City side which lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2020 as well being part of our Under-18 Premier League North title winning squad that same year.

Meanwhile, fellow Academy youngster Shea Charles has also signed a new long-term contract with the Club.

As with Burns, the 18-year-old holding midfielder’s new deal runs through until June 2027.

One of the pivotal figures in our Under-18s Premier League North and National twin title victories last season, Charles was subsequently promoted to the Elite Development Squad in the summer of 2021.

He has since gone on to make a big impact at Under-23 level and has so far made 15 appearances for us in PL2 as well as figuring five times in our UEFA Youth League campaign.

Shea’s progress was further recognised last November when he was capped for the first time by Northern Ireland’s Under-21s.
