Lead Coach Lauris Coggin says his Under-18s 5-1 win over Derby showed his side's quality and ability to adapt during a busy schedule.

Tireni Aiyegbusi powered City ahead just minutes after the start before Derby forced an equaliser through Kieran Clarke.

Aiyegbusi restored our advantage ahead of half-time, with City picking up where we left off in the second 45 as Jahavn Woode made it three.

Darren Motsi added his name to the scoresheet with Freddie Lawrie heading in our final goal of the afternoon to secure another three points to extend a pitch perfect start to the season for the Blues’ youngsters.

It comes after a string of results which has seen us win seven games in seven as we now sit top of the table.

But it’s not the only competition we’ve been involved in as we secured a dramatic 5-2 comeback against Brentford in the Premier League Cup coming into today’s clash with the East Midlands side.

And Coggin said he’s been impressed with his side’s attitude and performances despite a busy schedule.

“For a young group especially to be able to show what they do day-to-day and then have consistency in their performances like they have done and what’s been really impressive again is that each game has been different,” he said.

“We’ve had cup games thrown into our schedule as well, 17s and 18s, the players’ attitude, application, and quality has been incredible.

“We’re creating a real togetherness within the group, which I think you can see game to game, home and away.

“So having the younger players integrate into that at under 16s level has also been a big bonus.

“So I think what the players are creating as a group is really impressive.”

Up next we welcome Southampton to the City Football Academy in the Under-18 Premier League Cup on Wednesday 28th October, in what proves to be another challenge for the Young Blues

With Coggin expressing how privileged his side feel to be involved in so many different competitions and continue to push ourselves to the next level.

“It’s really important that we don’t take what we’re doing for granted, to be able to play a game every three days with a different group of players, different challenges, different competitions,” he added.

“It’s a big test, but it’s something that players have to be ready for.

“This is a huge club and it’s the demands that we expect and that’s something that our young players have to get used to.”
